I drive a 2008 Smart ForTwo Passion Cabriolet with a little over 30,000 miles on it. Since I get a ton of questions about my adorable, yet minuscule, vehicle, I wanted to write a couple of posts to educate my readers on all things Smart. Today, I’ll give you some deets and next week, I’ll follow up by answering some FAQs.

SmartCars in general:

  • Are designed and engineered by Mercedes-Benz
  • Are 85% recyclable (is this insane or what??)
  • Have 1 liter engine displacement
  • Get approximately 34 mpg in the city and 38 mpg highway
  • Have a Tridion safety cell, which is a lot like a race car’s roll cage. [Smart says on their website: “Much like a nut is protected by its hard outside shell, the smart fortwo’s occupants are protected by a steel housing that combines longitudinal and transverse members that displace impact forces over a large area of the car. So it’s not about the amount of steel, but how that material will resist an impact.”]

My little convertible:

  • Has an MSRP of $17,690 for the 2012 model
  • Weighs 1853 lbs
  • Dimensions are 8.8’ long x 5.1’ wide x 5.1’ tall
  • Has a 8.7 gallon gas tank
  • Has 12 cubic feet of storage in the back

Today is Mother Goose Day, so celebrate by digging out and reading your favorite nursery rhymes. Personally, I’m still a little disturbed by Mother Hubbard living in that shoe with all those kids, but who am I to talk? Last summer, I lived in a garage. At one time, we had five humans and a dog crammed into a space with one bathroom and a two-burner stove. But at least it didn’t smell of dirty feet :-).
