When Lillian Summer Fairview's husband Harlan up and died on her, he left her with nothing but bags full of losing scratcher lottery tickets. Handygal Maggie Rawls is Lil's BFF from all the way back in their William & Mary sorority days. Recently widowed, Maggie moves from Virginia to Summer Shoals, Georgia, to help Lil with the family estate.

Tool belt and duct tape in hand, Maggie just to fix up Summer Haven's carriage house and move in. But when Lil has to take a covert extended leave of absence from society, Maggie knows her dreams will have to wait until she can get Lil out of one hot mess. Again and again. All while keeping Lil's secret.

To Maggie's ever-lovin' frustration, this is one problem that even duct tape can't fix.

When California girl Serendipity Johnson shows up at the local Wal-Mart in her VW van, Sheriff Teague Castro has three choices: shoo her out of Summer Shoals, arrest her for boondocking, or take her to Summer Haven.

When he drives up to Summer Haven with Sera, Maggie is thrown off stride by the flower child-woman with bells on her ankle, tattoos, and a van with Mary Jane stickers on the back window.

The yoga-lovin' free spirit quickly wins Lil's and Maggie's hearts, though, and now she's getting so close to these Southern gals that it's becoming harder to keep her own past quiet.

Abby Ruth is Texan to the tip of her custom cowboy boots. When Teague Castro asks her to come to Summer Shoals, Georgia, to spy on a group of blue-hairs at some fancy-schmancy estate, Abby Ruth says yes. She heads east in her big ol' dually truck with an attached horse trailer full of her precious belongings, including one heck of a gun collection.

Only Abby Ruth quickly finds that tagging along with these Georgia gals is way more fun than tattling on them and joins them in the search for a double-crossing funeral director.

And that's just the first fun fiasco. Besides she still has high hopes that her daughter Jenny will somehow find her way back to Teague, the real love of her life.

Bartell County Sheriff, Teague Castro, might be a Texas transplant, but he's settled right into Summer Shoals, Georgia. He suspects there's more than hands of bridge and quilting going on over at Summer Haven. So he invites Abby Ruth Cady to town to do a little unofficial undercover spying for him. After all, she's a granny, too.

Only Abby Ruth is soon playing for the old gals' team and, Teague has a heckuva time keeping up with women twice his age. He ends up chasing them all over the countryside trying to keep their senior butts out of harm's way.
