Interview with Contemporary Romance Author Reese Ryan

Happy Tuesday, BCBers! I’m head over heels to introduce you to one of my Carina sisters, Reese Ryan, who is here to tell us about her debut book. And let me tell you, by the looks of that cover, it’s both hot and sweet!

MtFM CollageReese and I (along with Tamara Morgan, Kat Latham and Alison Packard) are doing the Sizzling Summer of Contemporary Romance giveaway together! You can expect my giveaways during the Personal Assets blog tour in August and September. In addition, Reese is doing an Amazon gift card giveaway in conjunction with her Making the First Move blog tour. See the Rafflecopter form at the end of this post to enter!

Welcome to Brain Candy, Reese!

What’s the name of your latest release and a one-line description of the book?

Making the First Move is a sexy, friends-to-lovers contemporary romance about two people who struggle with issues from their past and destructive secrets that threaten to keep them apart.

Describe the book’s hero in three words.

Sexy. Selfless. Passionate.

What do you love most about writing contemporary romance?

I love that stories written in the here and now are usually stripped down to just the characters and emotions. Historicals, paranormals, and sci-fi romances are all wonderful. But they require lots of world-building and explanation. Contemporary romances don’t require that level of explanation. It’s just the reader, the characters, and their emotions.

What’s the last contemporary romance you read that you loved?

His Southern Temptation by Robin Covington. I loved both the hero and heroine and the quirky people in the southern town where the story is set. There’s such delicious sexual tension between Lucky and Taylor. And the love scenes…*fans self and reaches for a glass of water*…hot doesn’t even begin to describe them. That book made me an instant Robin Covington fan.

Reader question from Amy Remus: Do you model characters after people you know?

I never model a character after a real person. However characteristics of people I’ve known—including me—do sometimes creep into my characters. For instance, Melanie Gordon—the heroine in Making the First Move—is allergic to cats, is a huge sports fan, and loves the Cleveland Museum of Art, characteristics which we share.
