The (In)Famous Beanie Wienie Cheese – Kelsey Browning

The (In)Famous Beanie Wienie Cheese

The holidays can be a stressful time with all the cooking and entertaining. But if you’re looking for a quick, cheap weekday meal (and your family’s not particularly picky), I’ve got help on the way.

My mom’s one-dish Beanie Wienie Cheese. Yep, you read that right. All you need is a casserole dish and three ingredients:

  • A package of hot dogs, sliced
  • A can or two of ranch-style beans
  • Shredded cheddar cheese

Line those doggies up in the dish, and dump the beans on top. Sprinkle with cheese. Cover with foil and cram it in the over. Let’s say…30 minutes or so at between 300-350 degrees.

When I was growing up, my mom would serve this with her also famous greasy taters. (More on those in another post.)

Enjoy!

PS – I do feel obligated to tell you I abhor both hotdogs and ranch-style beans so I avoided this dish when I was a kid, and it’s never been cooked in my own kitchen – :D.

Today is Poinsettia Day. Perhaps you avoid decorating your house with these plants because you’ve heard they’re poisonous to pets. Apparently, their toxic properties have been highly over-rated, according to the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center. So decorate away, but I still wouldn’t advise making your dog or cat a salad from the leaves!
