If You Like Paranormal Romance Author J.R. Ward, You’ll Like . . . – Kelsey Browning

If You Like Paranormal Romance Author J.R. Ward, You’ll Like . . .

Imagine my surprise (and happy dance!) when Candis Terry, author of tons o’ fun contemporary romances, contacted me on Twitter about doing an If You Like post after she was featured in Kimberly Kincaid’s If You Like Jill Shalvis post. Obviously, I told her to come on over to Brain Candy!

Welcome, Candis!

As a small town contemporary romance author I like to read for pleasure as far from my own genre as possible. The wilder, the darker, the more fantastic the story, the better. In case you like taking a trip outside the realm of normal, I thought I’d share some of my favorite paranormal reads.

J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series  is total escapism in a world of vampires so real you can smell the blood. Her character and world-building are phenomenal and she always leaves me wanting more.

Coreene Callahan’s Dragonfury series are riveting stories about a clandestine race of half-dragon, half-humans known as dragon-shifters who live among the humans. In their world, honor and duty always come first. And the task is never easy. I never thought I’d love dragons. Never thought I’d find them sexy. I love being wrong! Ms. Callahan delivers an extraordinary blend of high-powered action, strong characters, and fire-breathing sensuality.

BCB - wulfe_450New York Times Bestselling Author Pamela Palmer’s Feral Warriors series is about an elite band of immortals who can change shape at will. Sworn to rid the world of evil, consumed by sorcery and seduction, their wild natures are primed and ready for just about anything. The Ferals are not just lions, and tigers, and bears (oh my!). They are panthers and hawks and foxes and wolves and are the most fascinatingly sexy group of alphas I’ve ever read.

I discovered Sara Humphreys Amoveo series and devoured each intriguing story of these beautiful and secretive shapeshifters whose very existence is threatened by an age-old enemy and warring factions within the clans as fast as my fingers could turn the pages.

Last but certainly not least is Teri Garey I don’t know where to start because she has several series. In the Nicki Styx stories you’ll find a heroine wrapped up in vintage and goth until a brush with death leaves her with the ability to see dead people who have a lot to say! In the Devil’s Bargain series you’ll meet a yummy devil named Sammy Divine. Temptation and seduction are the tricks of the Devil’s trade, and when offered the chance to regain his wings by playing guardian angel, he’s hell-bent on doing things his way. I highly recommend reading each and every one of Ms. Garey’s books over and over and over.

So there you have it! Now go ahead, dive in to the other side, and enjoy!

Today is Snowman Burning Day. Honestly, I’m not sure how well that would work, but I know a helluva lot of midwesterners who’d like to try! 🙂
