Gifts for Readers – Brain Candy’s Eighth Day of Christmas

Ah, gifts for the reader in your life (and no, I don’t mean you). Is anyone more fun to buy for? Check out my top picks for the biblio-inclined in your life!

E-Reader

The ultimate reader gift would probably be a new Kindle, Nook, Kindle Paperwhite, etc. I read from an iPad and love it, but you might want to know your reader’s visual preferences in order to pick out the best e-reader. Back lighting, contrast, etc. can all make a difference to the reader experience. I don’t mind the computer-like screen on the iPad, but many prefer an ink display.

Book of the Month Club

Smarty Boy and I did this for my mom on her last birthday. Each month, I would hand-pick a book and pop it in the mail to her. It was a great way to pass on a few of the books I’d read and loved and an excellent excuse to go to the bookstore. You can also “gift” e-books through Amazon! All you need is the person’s email address (and money, if course :-)).

Cool stuff from Levenger

I’m especially partial to this Bloomsbury Bookbag for only $69 (Tech Guy, are you listening??)

A signed book written by her favorite author

You can sometimes buy signed copies via eBay or through auctions like Brenda Novak’s Online Auction for Diabetes Research (which means you have to plan WAY ahead). Or check out the author’s website to see if he or she will be doing a signing near your town.

Today is National Cotton Candy Day. I admit, it’s hard to find decent cotton candy outside a ball park or the circus. But if you love it as much as I do, you could order yourself one of those toy cotton candy makers online. I’m partial to this one:
