Comparing Myself to Ladies with Big Shoes *Gulp* – Kelsey Browning

Comparing Myself to Ladies with Big Shoes *Gulp*

I recently had someone ask me who (other authors) I would compare my writing to. Yow, talk about tough. If you compare yourself to the “big names,” you sound like a braggart, but it also gives a good reference point. And since I’ve been hosting all the If You Like posts lately, I figured I would do the reverse for myself :-).

**Tiptoeing in…**

Jill Shalvis – Jill’s loved for her great heroes and, most recently, for her long-running small-town Lucky Harbor series.

Readers have enjoyed the heroes—Cameron, Jamie, Beck, and Mac—in my Texas Nights series. And it’s a four-book series set in the same small Texas town.

Ruthie Knox – The first RK book I read was actually a novella, and it about knocked my socks off! Her characters are just so fun, and the sex? Well, it’ll definitely “knox” your socks off!

Readers have described my love scenes as “smoking hot,” “sexy and steamy,” “red-hot,” and “if this were a paperback instead of an ebook the pages would have caught on fire!” I’ll take that kind of feedback any day! 🙂

Shannon Stacey – Stacey writes such fun and funny characters. They’re the reason she draws me in again and again.

My reader say they’ve had numerous LOL moments while reading my books and that humor is a natural extension of my writer’s voice.

So, yes, I’m kinda trying to stick my foot into some big shoes (in the best possible way, ladies!), but comparison to writers I love is such an effective way to tell other readers whether or not they might enjoy my contemporary romances.

If you’ve read my books, which authors would you compare my writing style to? If you haven’t, who are your fave contemporary romance authors?

Today is Canada Day. When we lived overseas, we met lots of Canadian expats, and now that I’m a writer, I’ve met tons of wonderful Canadian readers and authors. They’re damn good people, y’all. Eh?
