Kelsey’s Contemporary Romance Reading Spot – Kelsey Browning

Kelsey’s Contemporary Romance Reading Spot

Hey, y’all! I am soooo stoked to share today’s post with you because Heather “Rock Star” Machel and I have been working on a blog trilogy that will showcase THREE amazing reading spaces.

How many times have you wished for your own reading spot? Maybe something lavish with bookcases galore, or possibly a cozy little nook piled high with pillows. Yeah, me too! 🙂

Because we all have those readerly dreams, Heather and I thought it would be fun to create the primo reading set-up for each of the genres/sub-genres I write (currently contemporary romance, romantic suspense, and cozy mystery).

We’re kicking it off with everything I would outfit a space to read (or write) books like those in my Texas Nights or Prophecy of Love series.

Every reading room MUST have a bookcase (or ten). I thought this funky modern piece would be tons of fun. Who would I stock my shelves with? Authors like Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Jamie Farrell, Nancy Naigle, Sharla Lovelace, Jill Shalvis, Christie Ridgway, Kimberly Kincaid, Marina Adair, Tracy Brogan, Kylie Gilmore, Liz Talley, Lucy Score, Erin Nicholas, Catherine Bybee, and more!

Bring on the comfy chair–am I right? You want plenty of space to curl up and become completely entranced with your new BFF heroine, your current book boyfriend, and their rocky (and sexy!) relationship. Looking for something a little different? You can find even more Arhaus cozy chairs and sofas to curl up on here.

No reading spot is complete without a cozy blankie. Yes, those sexy scenes might warm me up, but my toes stay cold – LOL. This one from Arhaus is a decadent cashmere. Oooh la la!

If you’re a read-and-snuggle gal like me, your space wouldn’t be complete without a pillow. Because I’ve lived and traveled (and read!) all over the world, this pillow would definitely be tucked into my comfy chair.

Now that we’re snuggled down, we need a few more things to complete the space. Like a table to hold our lamp, snacks, drinks, and anything else a reader gal needs handy. I admit that this set of nesting tables just seemed so right for contemporary romance – can you guess why? 😉

Every reader knows a lamp is critical to the reading process. But these days, with our e-readers, we can afford to be a little artsier (is that a word, y’all??) with our light sources. Isn’t this “book light” the cutest thing you’ve ever seen? I seriously want to hug it!

Yes, we might have stocked our space with a blanket, but snack runs and potty breaks are inevitable, which means we want something soft and cushy under our feet. During my time living overseas in Qatar, I fell in love with rugs, and this one is perfect–from the colors to the shapes to the size!

I know our reading space will be mostly decked out with books, books, and more books, but surely we have space for a piece of art or two, right? This one caught my eye, and I immediately knew it was “the one” for me!

Every reader knows that reading while dressed in “real clothes” is nice, but reading in your PJs is freakin’ amazing! This is my outfit pick for reading contemporary romance. A little sweet, a little sexy!

What’s a good book without something to sip while you’re reading? I’d love to have a set of these in my reading space because I will definitely need something to offer that book boyfriend when he strolls in and sits down, smiling his sexy smile at me. Cheers, y’all!

I’ve also created a Pinterest board of these fun items! A BIG ol’ Texas-girl thank you to Heather, who helped make this post series possible! <3

Tell me, y’all…Is there anything you’d add to make the perfect contemporary romance reading spot? And if you had all of these amazing goodies, what’s the first book you’d read in your new space?
