Brain Candy Readers, welcome to another fabulous interview with contemporary romance writer, Wendy S. Marcus. We’re fortunate that Wendy could visit with us two weeks in a row!

Hi Kelsey!
Thank you for having me back again this week to talk about the second book in my Piermont Sisters duet, Secrets of a Shy Socialite. For readers who missed last week’s post on book one, Craving Her Soldier’s Touch, it can be found HERE. And while the books are related, each book is written to stand alone.
1) What’s the name of your latest release? Secrets of a Shy Socialite is about ‘quiet twin’ Jena Piermont, who has made a difficult and controversial decision that she hopes will prolong her life with her infant daughters, and how the unsuspecting father turns into the man he’d always hoped to be as a result. Readers can find out more here: http://wendysmarcus.com/books/
2) Describe the book’s hero in three words: Strong. Caring. Determined.
3) What do you love most about writing medical romance? Since I’m a nurse, I love writing about the lives of strong, capable and caring nurses both in the medical setting and in their private lives. Because nurses are so much more than their jobs.
4) You write contemporary romance, is that your favorite genre of romance to read? I am a voracious reader, and I do love to read contemporary romance. But I also love historical romance and romantic suspense, depending on my mood.

5) Breast cancer is a very emotional topic. Why did you choose to write about it in Secrets of a Shy Socialite? Genetic testing for the ‘breast cancer gene’ and prophylactic mastectomies are very hot topics in the discussion of women’s health issues right now. And I wrote Jena’s story to be about so much more than breast cancer. It’s about a woman’s right to make her own healthcare decisions, it’s about survival.
Wendy S. Marcus writes medical romance for Harlequin Mills and Boon under the tagline: These aren’t your Aunt Mabel’s medical romances. They’re hot, sexy, and fast-paced. To learn more visit her website. Find Wendy on Facebook. Tweet with Wendy on Twitter. Talk books with Wendy on Goodreads.

My question for Wendy today: What type of feedback are you getting from readers on tackling the subject of breast cancer?

Today is Laugh and Get Rich Day. Now, talk about my kinda holiday! Guess I’m just wondering, does laughing make you rich or are you laughing because you’re rich? How about chuckling your way to the convenience store to buy a lottery ticket? Be sure to let me know if you win!Â

Hi Kelsey!
Thanks so much for having me back. As far as feedback on Secrets of a Shy Socialite, all reviews I’ve seen have been VERY positive. It’s an emotional story about a difficult topic. One reviewer noted she didn’t understand Jena’s choice but it gave her something to think about. I like that!
As far as which book was my favorite to write, I really enjoyed writing both books. But if I had to choose, I I’d have to say I enjoyed writing Jaci a tiny bit more because she’s sarcastic like me.

I can understand enjoying writing sarcastic characters!
And yes, I struggled with Jena’s decision as well, but it certainly made for an emotional and thought-provoking read!

Hi, Wendy!
As I’ve told you before, I adored this book. What I like most about Jena is that she’s determined and making an informed decision. It’s not something she just decided to do. She researched her options and made the best choice for her and her daughter. It’s not an easy thing to do.
Justin is great too!
Abbi
Thanks Abbi!
It’s certainly not a decision made lightly. I’m so happy you enjoyed the book!

Hi again, Wendy! Don’t put me in the drawing since I won your other book. It sounds like an emotional book. These days everyone has been touched in some way by a family or friend with cancer. We recently lost my mother-in-law this past October after her 16 year battle with breast cancer. She was a truly amazing woman and I learned so much from her. I look forward to checking this book out as well! My question for you is – do you ever include examples form real life coworkers or patients in your books?

Hi Amy!
Craving Her Soldier’s Touch is in the mail and on the way! Hopefully it’s traveling ahead of this snow storm we have going on in NY.
As far as examples from real life, I was hesitant to write a book about breast cancer. My mom lost a long and hard fought battle with breast cancer when I was twenty. But I got the idea for Jena’s story when talking with a friend who’d undergone prophylactic mastectomies because she had a family history of breast cancer and had tested positive for the BRCA “breast cancer gene.” At the time, it was beyond my comprehension how a woman would undergo elective mastectomies. But from talking with her I learned a lot about courage and strength and the fight for survival. That intrigued me enough to get started on Jena’s book!
