Red Hot Read: Over the Line by Cindy Gerard

Title: Over the Line

Author: Cindy Gerard

Genre: Romantic Suspense

Why Over the Line is a Red Hot Read: I’ve never read a Cindy Gerard book I didn’t love, and I don’t even read that much romantic suspense anymore. However, anything of Cindy’s is an auto-buy for me. Over the Line isn’t her latest release, but it’s one of my all-time faves. Bad girl rock star, good boy bodyguard, suspense, danger and sex. Who could ask for more?

Today is Pencil Day. I find that everyone has a strong opinion about the best writing pencil. If you want to know mine, take a gander at this post.

Red Hot Read: Ender’s Game

Title: Ender’s Game

Author: Orson Scott Card

Genre: SciFi, Teen – SciFi

Why Ender’s Game is a Red Hot Read: Even if you’re not a sci-fi fan, you should consider giving Orson Scott Card’s most notorious book a read. Ender is a great protagonist, and the concept of kids living and working in a military facility is fascinating. Parents will cringe at times, but young adults will revel in power held by these young characters. I’ll be honest, I never saw the ending coming because I was too wrapped up in the fantastic story.

Today is National Puppy Day, so for once, it’s okay to spend half an hour mooning over all those cute PowerPoint slide shows people send you. Too bad they’re not 4-D. Then you could even smell the puppy breath!

Red Hot Read: The Hunger Games

Title: The Hunger Games

Author: Suzanne Collins

Genre: Teen Fiction

Why The Hunger Games is a Red Hot Read: Smarty Boy had already read/listened to at least one of the books in this series before he asked if we could read them aloud. It’s an incredibly well written account of a future, dystopian North America. Needless to say, we tore through three books in less than a month. Although this is considered teen fiction, The Hunger Games series has enough action and character development to keep an adult engaged. Believe me, I was the one begging to read more than half the time. Since the movie debuts next week, I recommend you snag this book and read it before grabbing a seat and popcorn at your local theater.

This month is National Peanut month. So celebrate by baking up a batch of peanut butter cookies. Those little criss-cross marks made by pressing a fork into the dough are required :-) .

Red Hot Read: The Luck Factor

Title: The Luck Factor

Author: Dr. Richard Wiseman

Genre: Non-fiction, Self-help

Why The Luck Factor is a Red Hot Read: This researcher from the UK conducted some fascinating studies on people who considered themselves either lucky or unlucky. What he discovered, and the four principles of luck he writes about in this book, will not only change the way you look at luck forever, but will teach you how to attract more luck into your life!

This week is Celebrate Your Name Week. You might celebrate by setting up a Google Alert on your name. I always find it fascinating to discover I’ve apparently died somewhere in Tennessee earlier in the month!

Red Hot Read: Flirting with Forty

Title: Flirting with Forty

Author: Jane Porter

Genre: Romance, Women’s Fiction

Why Flirting with Forty is a Red Hot Read: This book by Jane Porter isn’t hot off the press, but was published in 2006. I even had it on my shelf for two to three years before it called to me. But once it did, all I wanted to do was sink into a tub of hot water and finish it. It’s a story about divorce, resilience, joy, passion and forgiveness. Porter took a common enough occurrence, a woman’s divorce in her late-thirties, and made it into a story of personal triumph. If you know someone who’s recently divorced, this might make a lovely get-back-on-your-feet gift.

Today is National Tortilla Chip Day. It’s Friday, so why not celebrate by whipping up a big ole plate of messy nachos? I like mine with Colby or Pepperjack cheese, black beans, grilled chicken, sour cream, pico de gallo, guacamole, and chopped green onions.
